Monogamy and Evolutionary Psych

So im a psych major, and we learn all kinds of crazy sad little tidbits about humanity. Like how republicans have a lower stress tolerance haha, or how rats who are licked more as babies are more secure adults, and all kinds of fun uneccessary facts.

Evolutionary psych has been popping up all over my life, so I thought Id write a little about it. In class, in conversation, in bad ashley judd movies....One which I have briefly learned in psych class and from one of my fav ppl ever, is that monogamy could be genetic. Yup you heard it, genetic. There is such a thing as a monogamy gene, and only 5% of the population has it. This is according to an up and coming study which I will most definitely cite when it come out.

So 5%- 5 out of every 100 guys (unfortunately i believe this study only focuses on men but im sure women have like 5x the amount of the monogamy gene anyway) It can even be seen in animals, there are only a small handful of animals that will mate with only one mate for life case and point lobsters as in ross is rachels lobster. Let reverse that 95% of the male population is missing this gene!

So its no wonder divorce rates sky rocket, monogamy is just not in mosts genetic code.

5 out of every hundred! that miniscule, thats the house always wins odds. thats betting that george mason will win the ncaa tourney odds. That the cowboys will ever win the super bowl again odds, that you wont get a nasty lemon skittle in your next handful of skittle's odds.-segway don't you hate it when that happens, you grab a handful of skittles or sour patch kids and you always get the freaking lemon or lime flavored ones anyways, your odds of that not happening, are better than finding someone with the monogamy gene.

This gene is made even less apparent with the current cultures obsession with single life, which i personally think isnt a bad thing, who wants to settle down at 25 anymore? gives me stomach pains just thinking about it.

So I dunno maybe angelina and brad have the right idea? Date as long as freaking possible before getting married it will save you alot of money in the long run : ) haha jk

but i just found this profoundly intriguing.
